DABE’s Inaugural Research Day
By: Casey Boothe, PhD
On Thursday, May 16, the Department of Advanced Biomedical Education (DABE) hosted its first Research Day in the Norman C. Nelson Student Union. Dr. Loretta Jackson-Williams was the invited keynote speaker; she gave a wonderful introduction and description of DABE, which is a relatively new department on our campus. Much work has been done to form this department, and much work continues to be done by the faculty and staff within the department, who are committed to improving education at the medical center.
This inaugural event brought together a dynamic group of faculty, fellows, residents, and students representing 13 different departments and programs across UMMC’s campus who showcased their innovative work through engaging poster presentations. With a total of 34 poster presentations, this event was a huge success!
The diversity of research topics reflected the breadth of educational initiatives and the commitment to advancing medical education within our institution. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and forge new collaborations.
The event not only highlighted the impressive accomplishments of our faculty, fellows, residents, and students, but also emphasized the importance of educational research in enhancing teaching methodologies and learning outcomes for clinicians, educators, students, and patients alike. The enthusiasm and high level of participation were testament to the thriving intellectual environment and collective dedication to academic excellence here at UMMC.
As we reflect on the success of this event, we are excited about the future and the potential for growth for future Research Days. We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence and providing a platform for our community to share their insights and innovations in medical education.
